The Staff Urologist provides comprehensive and quality care to patients in the FHCC by remaining fully accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice, and demonstrating leadership and accomplishments when providing patient care and developing and implementing programs which will improve the delivery of care relating to the Urology Department. The incumbent is familiar with the specific needs related to the patient population and the FHCC services provided. She/he assesses the physical, emotional, and developmental status of patients and makes positive interventions to maintain, restore or improve health.
The Staff Urologist develops monitors and alters a comprehensive health care treatment program, gather a comprehensive database, and perform initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status. Conduct and document histories and physicals. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, i.e., lab works, x-rays, EKGs, consults, and similar studies. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with other attending physicians and health care team. Record progress notes, write discharge notes and summaries. Generate appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and community agencies according to established procedures. Discriminate between normal/abnormal findings and formulating a treatment plan accordingly. Communicate with attending physicians regarding abnormal findings. Initiate and adjust selected medications with formulary approval for inpatients. Develop and provide patient treatment and education plan. Initiate and monitor health maintenance in conjunction with the patient, family/significant other and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Provide and promote teamwork support and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members.
The FHCC is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense (DoD), integrating all medical care into a federal health care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission: “Readying Warriors and Caring for Heroes.” Your patients will be a mix of both veterans and active-duty military, including recruits at the Great Lakes Naval Base.
Located in North Chicago, Illinois, Lovell FHCC and was established on Oct. 1, 2010, when the former North Chicago VA Medical Center (VAMC) and the former Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes (NHCGL) merged their resources and services. The combined mission of the health care center means active-duty military, their family members, military retirees and other veterans are all cared for at the facility. The health care center ensures that more than 40,000 Navy recruits who transition through Naval Station Great Lakes each year are medically ready to serve, in addition to nearly 67,000 eligible military and retiree beneficiaries from Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin who receive first-rate Comprehensive health care services.
The Lovell FHCC also maintains strong academic affiliations with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and has a robust medical student and resident program within the facility.
